15th Annual Capital City Film Festival!

Every year, the Capital City Film Festival transforms Lansing into a celebration of film, music, and creativity. Inspired by the central idea of a "Digital Spring," the identity combined experimental typography and expressive illustration to create a visual world where anything felt possible.

As Lead Designer, I transformed the campaign concept into a cohesive visual identity that extended across posters, event collateral, environmental graphics, merchandise, and festival experiences, creating a connected brand experience at every touchpoint.

Building the Visual Language

Bringing to life the central idea of a “Digital Spring.”

By starting first with the Digital - I was running typography through various After Effects warpings to create distorted, glitchy, interesting shapes. Capturing interesting moments that could be mixed and matched into endless lockup options.

To preserve a sense of spontaneity, I challenged myself to create illustrations within strict time limits of 15, 30, and 90 seconds. The time constraints pushed the work away from perfection and toward something more expressive and alive.

Bringing the Festival to Life

With a flexible visual toolkit in place, the campaign could take on different forms while still feeling cohesive. Elements could be mixed, matched, and recombined across posters, merchandise, event materials, and environmental applications, giving each touchpoint its own personality within the larger campaign.
